Could Anna Wintour Be Getting A New Job?
The Guardian is reporting that Anna Wintour is a potential candidate for a political appointment later this year. Due to her fundraising efforts in President Barack Obama's re-election campaign, she might get a role as the U.S. ambassador in London if the position becomes open as expected. Wintour has raised over $500,000 for Obama and is hosting a $40,000-a-plate fundraising dinner with Sarah Jessica Parker in New York this week. She'll also be hitting the campaign trail with Iman in Chicago. The current ambassador, Louis Susman, had little foreign policy experience, but was known as "the vacuum cleaner" due to his ability to clean up cash while campaigning for Obama. A state department spokesperson told The Guardian: "An ambassador serves at the pleasure of the president. It's a designation of the most qualified person. But it would be erroneous to think of London as a nice, cushy, westernized post. This is key strategically, so you're going to want a very seasoned person, be it on the economic or diplomatic side of things." We were always assuming that she'd be getting that Secretary of State gig when that opens up...
