Brunello’s Big Year
(NEW YORK) Less than two months after being crowned the Prince of Solomeo by The New Yorker, “cashmere utopian” Brunello Cucinelli has taken home another honor: the Forum Prize 2010, awarded last week in Heidelberg, Germany. The prize, awarded by Textilwirtschaft magazine, has in the past honored the likes of Louis Vuitton, Puma, and Bottega Veneta. “This award is particularly important to us,” said Cucinelli in a statement. “We have close ties with Germany, a country that was so important in the early years of our business. The Germans were the first clients to believe in Solomeo cashmere.”
Cucinelli—who was unanimously picked as the recipient by the jury—accepted the award at a ceremony on May 2 during Textilwirtschaft’s forum, entitled The Age of Trust, at the Print Media Academy in Heidelberg. “Nothing has changed since we started our business: while the numbers, volume and perhaps even the responsibilities have increased, we are continuing to work in Solomeo with the same determination and dedication we’ve always had,” said Cucinelli. “We remain faithful to the grand ideals that support our company—religion, politics and family—and are aware of our role as temporary custodians of the tangible and intangible heritage and human resources that the company represents. In this particular moment for humanity we have patiently continued to invest in the Italian lifestyle on a daily basis, in an attempt to enthusiastically renew the union of Italian creativity, craftsmanship and quality.”
New Yorkers seeking to explore this union now have another Brunello Cucinelli retail location at their disposal. Last month, the brand opened up its second Manhattan location at 683 Madison Avenue. It also operates a boutique at 379 Bleecker Street.
