Browse & Pick Swap Meet
What's the latest retro fashion trend to crop up in the BK? Swap meets! One of the largest organizers to hit the scene is North Brooklyn rezzies David and Ann Badillo, who launched Browse & Pick in 2011. “When we came up with the idea for the business, we began to search the Internet to see how others had been doing it,” says co-founder David Badillo. “Most of the swap parties we found were seasonal and very small. We wanted to create a company that delivered greater consistency and provided more options."
The sustainable company offers up two major "meets" to New York hopefuls on the hunt for gently used merch. Swap Rouge is for les femmes and Swap-A-Coo is for the little tikes. This winter, Swap Fraternity will join the fray with men's clothing. Here's how it works. First, you purchase a ticket to the scheduled event. Then, you bring your own goodies (minimum of five, maximum of 20) to be evaluated on a point scale. For instance, 5+ points for brand names and 2 points for accessories. Tally up your points, and shop 'til you drop for items of equal or lesser value. All items left over will be donated to locals in need. Anyone care to swap?
