"My wife Grace and mother-in-law run the show on Thanksgiving," he told Chic. "From the farm-raised turkey to all the trimmings they manage all the details. A few years back I was able to try out an appetizer we had at a restaurant for the big day. It was so easy and good that it stuck."
Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts
2 cans whole water chestnuts
1 lb. bacon
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 generous tbsp. dark brown sugar
Directions: Mix the soy sauce and brown sugar together in a bowl to make a syrup. Drain water chestnuts and add to the mixture. Marinate covered in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (I've let marinate for as little as 15 minutes and as long as 2 hours). Cut bacon in half. Wrap chestnuts in bacon and secure with toothpick. Place on a rack in a baking sheet. Lightly brush marinate on wrapped chestnuts and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until caramelized.
