Your new essay collection, Sometimes I Feel Like a Nut, is your first foray into non-fiction.
I write trashy novels, normally, for women and gay men. They’re more labor-intensive, because there’s a narrative arc and all that bullsh**.
Is there a bias against chick lit?
All my chick-lit covers are the same colors as tampon boxes. If you’re reading that in public, it screams anti-intellectual. Which is fine by me; I’ve never been snobbish about writing.
You have rabid fans.
I was walking on Madison Avenue, and a woman said, “I just read your latest. I hate 69 too!”
So what’s next?
My daughter and I co-wrote a children’s book based on what happened when she said the F-word in school. They called me, and I was like, “She did? I wonder where she heard that!” Charlie said her dress was hideous, and she told him to “F*** off.” At least she used it in the right context.
